Why did you choose to study abroad when/where you did?
I chose to study in Shanghai because I fell in love with the city after I spent a weekend there during a high school Chinese language trip.
What was one of the most memorable experiences from your time abroad?
One of the most memorable experiences from my time abroad was when the Joint Institute held a Thanksgiving party for the American students and invited all the international students to celebrate.
What was one of the biggest surprises about the location, culture or other aspects of your program?
I was very surprised by the large amount of non-American international students that were studying abroad in Shanghai.
How do the skills and experience you gained abroad set you apart as a professional engineer?
The communication and teamwork skills that I gained by working in an international and intercultural program helps set me apart as a professional engineer.
What advice would you like to give to a student interested in an international experience?
Do it! It may be one of the best decisions of your life.
What resources did you use to finance your time abroad?
I was awarded the Richard Rogel scholarship to help fund my study abroad experience.
